Lend a Hand

For over 67 years, Happy Hollow Camp has had the privilege of providing a life-enriching summer camp experience to more than 40,000 economically disadvantaged and special needs children. Through our educational camp activities, children who face very difficult home lives or physical limitations find new ways to overcome their circumstances with the new life skills learned at Happy Hollow. Our safe and structured program is a welcome change in their lives. Each year we see children make remarkable achievements while they are at camp.

Children who would never experience the wonder and excitement of the outdoors are able to have a life changing experience that will have a profound impact on their development into adulthood.

Over 95% of our campers receive the free lunch program at their school. Their families pay only $65 for a week of summer camp, but Happy Hollow’s cost is $950 per child.

Your generous support will give a child the chance to experience the lasting impact of camp!

Make a Gift

Our donors are truly the heart of the support system that sustains our mission – To give economically disadvantaged children an opportunity to attend a summer camp where they can learn and have fun in a safe, supervised setting. We count on the generosity of our donors all year long, but in these challenging times, our donors are even more crucial than ever. Since 1951, more than 40,000 Central Indiana children have made the trip over winding Brown County roads to experience the adventures awaiting them at Happy Hollow. You can be a partner in Happy Hollow Camp’s mission of changing children’s lives.

Happy Hollow Children’s Camp offers many opportunities to give:

Financial Support

An undesignated gift allows Happy Hollow Children’s Camp to use funds where they are needed most to support our total program. If you prefer, you may download our Donation Form to fill out and send via mail with your check to Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, 615 N. Alabama Street, Ground Floor, Suite C, Indianapolis, IN 46204. If you wish, you may designate your gift for a “campership” to enable a child to attend camp. Capital funds gifts are used to support Happy Hollow Camp’s facilities, funding needed maintenance and improvements. To explore other gift opportunities, contact Jennifer Dant, Director of Development at 317-638-3849 or email Jennifer Dant

Thank you to our sponsors:

Volunteers at Happy Hollow are an essential part of our success. We have many opportunities available for individuals and groups who may be looking for one-time, occasional or long-term commitments.

Office Volunteers

Assist with general administrative projects at the Happy Hollow Camp Indianapolis office, such as assembling information packets, assisting with large mailings, etc.

Office Opportunities:

  • Clerical Help – A general knowledge of word and excel would be helpful. Currently we need help with preparing mailing for our events and other general mailings.
  • Creative Work – We prepare a newsletter twice a year and this would require someone to be familiar with Publisher. Writing and editing skills are a plus. Our current timeline for the newsletter is August-September and November-December.
  • In Kind Item Solicitation – Preparing mailings to local businesses to recruit auction items
  • Sponsor Solicitation – Prepare sponsorship mailings – this is done through the year. Some mailings use our data base information and a volunteer who may have ties within the community can prepare others. This can be done in the office and can be done at home.

Event Volunteers

Happy Hollow Camp relies on our dedicated event volunteers at special events to help set up, greet and register guests, sell raffle tickets, tear down, etc.

Event Opportunities:

  • In-Kind Donation & Sponsorship Solicitation – Preparing mailings to local businesses to recruit auction items and sponsors for the fundraising events. This person may be the liaison between a select few companies, so having a few people working on this committee would be beneficial.
  • Set Up – Usually arrive early in the day to set up tables, auction items, paperwork and any other on site details for the event. We usually need 10-15 people for setup, depending on event size and location.
  • Raffle Leader – Organize a group of 6-8 friends to sell raffle tickets at the event.
  • Registration/Checkout – This is the backbone for the accounting aspects of the evening, registering people, maintaining silent, live auction information, as well as preparing paperwork for checkout. An accounting or banking background is helpful. We usually need 6-8 people in this area and in the past have found that bank tellers or accounting reps have made great volunteers in this area.
  • Photo Attendant – Works with the photographer capturing names of those in the pictures. If we set up a photo booth, then we need someone who will take pictures and one person to write the log of who is in the pictures. These are two different volunteer opportunities.
  • Silent / Live Auction Volunteers – Volunteers are needed to be at all the auction tables, some to walk around live auction items, and some to be runners for both the Silent and Live auction items. This takes approximately 15-20 people for Under the Stars Event.
  • Tear Down/Clean Up – End of the evening cleanup crew. We try to pull some of the volunteers from other volunteer areas for tear down/cleanup. The tasks are different depending on the venue. We can manage on having 4-6 people help in this area.

Committee Members

Volunteers may participate as committee members on event planning committees or board working committees. For more information on the committees, click the Committee Descriptions page.

GiveBack

GiveBack is a group of Central Indiana young professionals interested in sharing their time, energy, and resources to help Happy Hollow’s mission of serving disadvantaged youth in our community. GiveBack Members work with other young professionals to increase camp awareness and raise funds for Happy Hollow Children’s Camp. While they support our camp programs, they have the opportunity to network with Indy business and philanthropic leaders and build a new network of contacts in our community. For more information on GiveBack membership, contact giveback@happyhollowcamp.net

Board Members

Happy Hollow Children’s Camp maintains an active, diverse and dedicated Board of Directors.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

  • There are opportunities that you may do from home. You may choose to raise funds by doing a third party fundraising event, a letter writing campaign, or tell their story online and solicit their friends and family to make a donation. If you prefer to not contribute financially, but want to help with recruiting others to participate, you can work on one of the solicitation lists above (in kind or sponsor solicitation)

Seasonal Volunteer Opportunities

  • Cleaning cabins (Located at Camp)
  • Basic grounds work (Located at Camp)
  • Assisting with camper check-ins and check-outs at the Indianapolis Office (Sunday afternoon & Friday afternoon)

Large Projects at Camp for Groups*

  • Restoration Projects
  • Cleaning cabins
  • Basic grounds work
  • Small construction projects
  • Trail building and maintenance

If you want to help, contact Jennifer Dant, Development Director, at (317) 638-3849.

*If you or your organization is looking to provide a large group of people to assist on a project at Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, please notify Bernie Schrader, Executive Director, at (812) 988-4900 at least ONE month in advance of proposed date. This will ensure that there is a project to accommodate your entire group.
