Happy Hollow Camp is located in the forest covered hills of southern Indiana. It encompasses over 800 acres through which a creek flows and there is a 20 acre lake for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Many other outdoor activities are held during the warm weather such as hiking, overnight camping, horseback riding, and spending time on one of the adventure challenge courses built in the trees.

In the valley there is a small barn for farm animals such as rabbits, chickens, pigs, sheep, goat, calves and Buster the camp cat. Near the barn lies our garden for the campers to experience and harvest vegetables to use. There is also a playing field for all kinds of sports such as soccer and baseball as well as full court basketball.

The talents of each summer staff also structure many special celebrations and activities which makes each session unique.

Our mission at camp is to provide a warm family atmosphere which encourages children to make new friends and explore new activities while living together in an outdoor setting. Upon arrival at camp, there will be time to rest after your long journey. The first two weeks are devoted to training staff for the various programs, learning skills, sharing ideas and getting to know the rest of the staff.

The summer program averages about 112 children each week and our staff totals 45. There will be five one week sessions for economically disadvantaged youth who have scholarships to enable them to attend camp. Each cabin consists of 6 to 8 campers and their counselor and another staff who works in a program or food service area. Both staff members in the cabin work together as a team to help children up in the morning with cabin duties, campfire skits and the bedtime routine. Any time the program or food service staff have a break in their job, they may join their cabin in activities and are encouraged to help them plan special programs.

In return when the cabin group visits a program, they may assist the program director in guiding the campers through that activity, such as nature study or mountain biking.

There will be a one week session for children with asthma and two sessions of camp for children that are in foster care. Their will be medical staff on site to help with medical needs during the asthma camp session.

The area around camp has many forests as well as farms and the small town of Nashville which is close to camp and attracts many visitors to their local artists, craftsman, and a large state park. On the other side of camp is the town of Columbus which is known for its unusual architecture.

During the first of June and then again in September, the evenings can be cool, so you will want to bring a sweater, jacket, or sweatshirt. Most of our summer days are hot and humid and the staff ware shorts, long pants or jeans and lightweight shirts or T-shirts.

The Indianapolis International Airport is an hour north of Happy Hollow Camp and a staff member from the camp will greet you and pick you up at the baggage claim.

Since you will be limited to one or two bags to bring, we will supply your sleeping bag, linens, blanket, pillow, towels, and flashlight. There will be a camp laundry and soap for your use. Camp does provide internet access to its staff during off time only.
