Decisions about cabin placements for counselors are based upon the needs of the camp, the counselor’s preferences for age groups and the enrollment in camp. Counselors may be in a different cabin, working with a different staff member every week. Please mark your age preferences on your application. While it will not guarantee placement with any particular age group, it will allow us to help you understand the camp activities related to any age.
Living Arrangements
All staff (counselors and program staff) live in a cabin group with campers. Each cabin group will consist of 8-6 campers and two staff members (one being the counselor and the other being a program staff). There are four villages (2 villages for the girls and 2 villages for the boys). All the villages share a central shower house (one for boys; two for girls). All staff is required to provide their own linens, blankets, pillows, and towels. Washers and dryers are available in the laundry room for staff.
Health
All staff are required to be examined by a physician within 24 months of their last day of employment at camp. All medications brought to the camp must, by law, be given to the Health Center staff for safe keeping. The camp is staffed with a nurse that lives on site. We are located 25 minutes from the Columbus Regional Hospital, a 24-hour medical and emergency facility. All staff should maintain their own health insurance at all times.
Criminal Background Check
All staff will be required to fill out an Employment Application Release form. All staff will then have their Criminal Background checked.
Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Policy
Happy Hollow Camp is a drug, alcohol, and tobacco free environment. Happy Hollow Children’s Camp, Inc. has a Drug & Alcohol Policy and Tobacco Policy in place which includes a ZERO TOLERANCE for drugs, alcohol, and tobacco in the camp environment. We reserve the right to test any employee.
